TL;DR
House Beautiful has featured Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also called the “Illusion” bed, as a space-saving option for guest rooms ahead of hosting season. The report lists a $1,099.99 price and describes a queen-size tri-fold foam mattress, pull-out side tables and a cabinet design that serves as storage when the bed is folded away.
House Beautiful has spotlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also referred to as the “Illusion” bed, as a space-saving guest-bed option ahead of the holiday hosting season. The report lists it at $1,099.99 and describes a queen-size foam mattress that folds into a credenza-style cabinet, giving households a way to keep a guest bed available without leaving a conventional bed set up full time.
The report describes the bed as a wood cabinet with a laminate or melamine finish. When folded away, it functions as a storage credenza; when opened, it provides a queen-size sleeping surface. The unit includes pull-out side tables for bedside items and leg levelers intended to help compensate for uneven floors. House Beautiful presents the cabinet’s less bed-like appearance as a practical feature for rooms that serve more than one purpose.
The included mattress is a 60-by-80-inch tri-fold foam mattress measuring six inches thick. According to the report, it has a medium-firm feel and is hypoallergenic and latex-free, with a cover made from 100% polyester. The article says the mattress should be left to expand for 48 hours after setup before reaching its normal size.
House Beautiful lists the Costco bed at $1,099.99 and says it was 11% off at the time of its report. That discount and price are not a guarantee of today’s offer. The article also notes that Costco products can be difficult to find at a nearby warehouse and points readers toward similar styles available through Amazon; it does not establish that those alternatives have the same specifications or price.
A Guest Bed That Folds Away
The bed’s appeal is its combination of sleeping space and everyday furniture. A spare room, basement or multipurpose room can be used for other purposes when no guest is staying, while the cabinet provides a place to store items. That may be useful for households that host occasionally but do not want a permanent bed taking up floor space.
The listed price includes a mattress, according to House Beautiful, so readers can compare the package with the cost of buying a bed and mattress separately. However, the report’s description is not an independent evaluation of comfort, durability or assembly. Buyers will need to weigh the upfront cost against their room dimensions, how often they host and the effort required to set up and fold away the unit.

What the Report Describes
House Beautiful’s article frames the Borealis as one option among several Murphy beds sold through retailers including Costco, Wayfair and Amazon. Its focus is a specific Costco model, rather than a broader announcement from Costco about a new product line. The source material does not include a statement from Costco or details about a launch date.
The report contrasts the Borealis cabinet format with Murphy beds whose storage cabinets can be visually prominent in a room. It suggests a lamp or vase could help the closed unit blend into the space. That is editorial styling advice, not a confirmed product feature or a guarantee that the bed will suit every room. The source also says it identified a similar version on Amazon, but does not provide enough information to establish that it is identical to the Costco model.

Price and Stock Can Change
The source report does not confirm current Costco pricing, warehouse inventory or online availability. Its $1,099.99 price and 11% discount reflect the report’s stated offer, and may have changed since publication. The article also does not specify which locations had the product in stock or how long delivery might take.
Other practical details are not established in the supplied material, including the cabinet’s full dimensions, shipping and assembly costs, warranty terms, weight capacity, return conditions and any installation requirements. House Beautiful provides product descriptions but no testing results or independent measurements of mattress comfort and long-term durability. Check the Current Listing
For shoppers considering the Borealis, the next step is to check Costco’s current product listing or contact a warehouse for availability, pricing and delivery details. They should confirm the cabinet dimensions against the intended room, review assembly instructions and verify what is included in the purchase. Anyone comparing the Amazon alternative should check its model and specifications rather than assuming it matches the Costco bed.
The source material does not announce a forthcoming product update or a confirmed end date for the reported discount. Any change in price, inventory or retailer availability remains subject to Costco’s current listings.
