TL;DR
ToolGuyd argues that Isotunes’ Sidekick clip-on Bluetooth speaker is hard to justify at $80 to $100, pointing to a much cheaper speaker with similar-looking FCC teardown images and a newer DeWalt model that it says is a closer comparison. The report also highlights conflicting Sidekick battery-capacity information and runtime claims; those points are observations and questions from the publication, not independently verified test results.
ToolGuyd has questioned whether Isotunes’ Sidekick clip-on Bluetooth speaker is worth its listed $80 to $100 price, arguing that its advertising comparisons omit a newer DeWalt model and that a much cheaper speaker appears similar in FCC teardown images. The report also flags a discrepancy between a battery capacity shown in an FCC filing and one displayed on Isotunes’ Walmart listing, leaving the company’s stated runtime difficult to compare from the available information.
ToolGuyd says Isotunes has promoted the Sidekick by contrasting it with an older DeWalt wearable speaker, including claims about a built-in work light and audio streaming. The report says a newer DeWalt Pro Max wearable speaker was available before the Sidekick campaign and is a closer comparison: it has an LED work light and supports Auracast for streaming to multiple compatible devices. ToolGuyd cited prices of about $67 for the DeWalt Pro Max after a coupon, compared with roughly $80 at Walmart or $100 directly for the Sidekick. Prices are snapshots from the report, not fixed current prices.
The report also compares the Sidekick with an Infurture wearable speaker listed on Amazon for about $14 to $21. ToolGuyd says images in FCC teardown materials show the Infurture and Sidekick circuit boards and components looking identical, including a matching board version number. That is the publication’s visual assessment; the supplied material does not include an independent examination confirming that the products use identical components or have equivalent performance, quality control, support or warranties.
Battery information is another point of dispute. ToolGuyd cites an FCC teardown showing a 750 mAh Sidekick battery, while an image on the Walmart listing reportedly identifies it as 600 mAh. Isotunes advertises up to 20 hours of playback; its Walmart image, according to ToolGuyd, qualifies that as 20 hours at 25% volume and nine hours at 50%. The report also cites 600 mAh and a 10-hour advertised runtime for Infurture, and 700 mAh and up to 12 hours for the DeWalt Pro Max. These are reported specifications and claims, not comparable results from a controlled battery test.
What the Price Buys Buyers
For shoppers choosing a wearable speaker for work, the comparison matters because the Sidekick costs several times more than the Infurture model cited by ToolGuyd and more than the DeWalt Pro Max price reported after a coupon. A higher price may reflect differences beyond the circuit board, such as durability, warranty, service, accessories or product testing, but the source material does not establish how those features compare. Buyers should not treat a similar-looking teardown as proof that products perform alike.
The report also challenges how to read the Sidekick’s up-to-20-hour runtime. Battery capacity alone does not establish playback time: volume and other operating conditions can affect results. ToolGuyd says Isotunes responded to a user questioning runtime by noting that playback volume affects battery life. Without standardized test conditions and reconciled capacity figures, readers cannot use the headline runtime figures as a direct product-to-product comparison.

The Comparisons Behind the Dispute
ToolGuyd’s criticism focuses on two separate comparisons. First, it says Isotunes’ advertising used an older DeWalt wearable speaker even though the newer DeWalt Pro Max offered a work light and Auracast. The report characterizes the older-model comparison as misleading; that is ToolGuyd’s assessment, and the supplied material does not include a response from Isotunes or the full advertising campaign for independent review.
Second, ToolGuyd examined publicly available FCC teardown images after noticing similarities between the Sidekick and the less expensive Infurture speaker. It says the boards appear identical and cites battery information from those materials. FCC filing images can inform a comparison of internal hardware, but they do not by themselves establish that two finished products have identical materials, firmware, sound, reliability or customer support. The report’s price and specification figures are tied to the listings and claims it reviewed and may change.

Battery Figures Still Conflict
The supplied report does not resolve whether the Sidekick battery is 600 mAh or 750 mAh: ToolGuyd cites an FCC teardown showing 750 mAh and a Walmart listing image showing 600 mAh. Isotunes’ quoted response explains that playback volume affects runtime, but the material does not provide a detailed, independently verified test protocol for the advertised 20-hour maximum.
It is also unclear whether the Sidekick and Infurture share more than similar-looking circuit boards, or how their performance, durability and support compare. The source includes no response from Isotunes to ToolGuyd’s broader criticism of its advertising or to the battery discrepancy. The article therefore raises questions about value and comparability rather than proving that the Sidekick is equivalent to a lower-priced product.

What Buyers Can Verify
The source does not identify a scheduled company response, test or product update. Readers considering a purchase can check current prices and warranty terms, review the latest manufacturer specifications, and ask Isotunes to clarify the battery capacity and the conditions behind its runtime claim. A controlled test comparing playback time at the same volume and settings would help assess the competing runtime figures.
Until those details are clarified, ToolGuyd’s report is best read as a value critique based on price listings, advertising comparisons and teardown images, not as an independent head-to-head performance test. Whether the Sidekick justifies its premium will depend on verified differences in sound, construction, support and real-world battery life that the supplied material does not settle.

Key Questions
What is the main criticism of the Isotunes Sidekick?
ToolGuyd argues that its $80 to $100 price is difficult to justify compared with lower-priced alternatives, and that Isotunes’ advertising comparison with DeWalt leaves out a newer model that the report considers more comparable.
Does the DeWalt Pro Max have a work light?
ToolGuyd says the DeWalt Pro Max wearable speaker includes an LED work light and supports Auracast. These details are reported specifications in the source material.
How long does the Sidekick battery last?
Isotunes advertises up to 20 hours, but ToolGuyd cites a Walmart image that reportedly specifies 20 hours at 25% volume and nine hours at 50%. Actual runtime under other conditions is not established by the supplied report.
Are the Sidekick and Infurture speaker the same product?
ToolGuyd says their FCC teardown images show circuit boards and components that look identical. The report does not independently establish that the finished products are identical in performance, materials, firmware, durability or support.
Has Isotunes responded to the report’s criticism?
The supplied material describes an Isotunes response about playback volume affecting runtime, but it does not include a response to ToolGuyd’s wider questions about the advertising comparisons or conflicting battery-capacity figures.
